CAMRA, The Campaign for Real Ale, is a National independent, voluntary, consumer organisation with over 85,000 members.

CAMRA's mission is to act as champion of the consumer in relation to the UK and European beer and drinks industry. Amongst its aims is to: maintain consumer rights; promote quality and choice; support the public house as a focus of community life, and campaign for greater appreciation of traditional beers.

CAMRA has been described as 'the most successful consumer group in Europe'. Except for a few paid staff, it is totally run by unpaid volunteers whose aim is to protect our brewing heritage and promote the choice and quality of real beers in the UK and Europe. Above all, we have FUN doing it!

The members of Newark CAMRA are part of this campaign, and the following web pages will keep you informed of their local activities. The site is split into two sections, the first dealing with all the happenings with the branch - Reviews, reports, news, dates etc; the second is a detailed pub guide, covering all the pubs in the branch area.
If you're planning a trip to Newark in Nottinghamshire, make sure it's during May 2008. That's when the local branch of The Campaign for Real Ale hold their annual beer festival.

Once again this May the Newark branch of the Campaign for Real Ale were filling their tented arena with around one hundred and forty traditionally crafted beers, together with a selection of real cider and perry for visitors to sample.
